Job’s friend Zophar has been talking about the secrets of God, and Job answers by pointing at the world: “ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee.” Earth and sea tell the same story, he says, and the answer is plain: “the hand of the LORD hath wrought this.” Every living thing is held in that hand. Proverbs 16:4 adds that “The LORD hath made all things for himself.” Creation, in these verses, is more than scenery. It points to a maker, and Job 12 is the place to read it.
