Burning Bush
A shepherd sees a bush on fire and cannot stop looking. Moses says, “I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.” Only when he turns does he hear his own name, twice: “Moses, Moses.” He answers, “Here am I.” Then comes the warning: “put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” Stephen retells the scene in Acts 7 as “an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.” Exodus 3 holds the whole encounter, including what God asks of Moses next.
